From his early career as the founding member of Scottish band The Jesus and Mary Chain, Douglas Hart has become a respected music video director for acts such as The Charlatans, The Libertines and Paul Weller.
I spoke to Douglas at the 2011 Encounters Short Film Festival about his debut short film, Long Distance Information, starring Peter Mullan, Caroline Paterson and Alan Tripney.
We discussed how he came to write and direct the film, the issues surrounding funding and the question of whether short films are merely a jumping off point for feature films.
You can also check out my first interview with animater Jessica Ashman and there'll be more interviews from Encounters in the next few weeks.
Please note that there is some strong language in this podcast.

This podcast is the first of a short series of interviews carried out at the Encounters film festival in Bristol and it features Glasgow-based animator, Jessica Ashman, who recently won the award for best animation at the Scottish BAFTA's for her short film, Fixing Luka.
Jessica spoke to ScottishFilms.com editor Jonathan Melville about the process that went into making Fixing Luka, her background in filmmaking and some of her future projects. You can follow the film on Twitter and on Facebook.
In this interview Jessica also mentions the short film website, Short of the Week.
We'll be publishing more interviews in the next few weeks, but in the meantime, here's the interview which took place in the rather noisy Delegate Centre at Encounters.
